Day 258: Glacial Valleys Panorama

Here is the promised panorama from Glacier National Park. It turned out quite nicely! I shot this from the Going-To-The-Sun Road on the east end of the valley. I’d love to be here for a sunset one evening. Click the image for the 1800px version!

Day 257: Big Sky Country

This is my second last post for this photo tour from the big sky country of Montana. I have a couple more but I’ll leave them for later in the year. I have a panorama from Glacier National Park coming but I am yet to stitch it together. Today’s image though, comes from outside the park. We were on our way south to Wyoming and stopped to get a shot of these hay bales in the fields.

Day 256: Glacier NP Entrance

This was taken as the evening light splashed on the mountains near the east entrance to Glacier National Park. The flowers across the meadow were rustling in the breeze.

Leave a comment below and let me know where you’re from so I can stick a name to my country stats. And if your site get any visits from Kenya, it’s probably me…

Day 255: Flowing Stream

We were headed back to our camp ground and stopped to take pictures of a mountain goat and it’s kid. I took the opportunity to wander back down the road and get this shot. Since it was 6:30 pm I was able to get a nice exposure length with my ND filter. As I was taking the filter out of it’s case I accidentally dropped it. Fortunately there were no scratches and I’ve used it plenty of times since. The settings were stopped down to f/29 so I could get 0.8 seconds exposure at 26mm.

As a side note, I’m really loving WordPress’s new country stats. It’s cool to see where all you visitors come from!

Day 254: Glacier Wildflowers

Back to my photo tour of North America and into Montana. From memory this is on the road to Many Glacier where we were hoping to go on a hike but there was reported bear activity on the trail. In late July this area is abundant with wildflowers. See a couple of my previously posted favourites from Montana: Day 70: Amongst The Flowers & Day 30: Hidden Lake.

Day 225: Logan Pass

This is Logan Pass in Glacier National Park, Montana. The pass lies on the highest point of the Going-to-the-Sun Road at 6,646 ft (2,026 m) where it crosses the great continental divide. On the right Reynolds Mountain stands prominently on the horizon. Click the image for the double size.

Day 148: Hoary Marmot

I shot this picture in Glacier National Park, Montana. This hoary marmot was foraging around near the boardwalk and eating all the flowers. A few minutes before I took this there were many, many more of those white flowers you see at the top of the image. Another interesting fact about these animals is the sound they make. It is a shrill whistle / bark / scream. Very unusual!
