Hanging Rock Stargazing

I realise it has been a long while since I posted a photo. The last few weeks have been a little uninspiring in regards to photography. While it has been an exciting time for other reasons, with a number of different projects happening, I have certainly missed taking my camera out on some adventures.

This shot was taken on one such adventure last year into the blue mountains. The Milky Way rises above the lights of Sydney in the east.

Milky Way Core

So many stars!! I tried some astrophotography with my 50mm lens for the first time last week. Well it wasn’t the first time, but it was the first successful time. It’s pretty hard to get the focus right with this lens so I was happy to find focus and get this shot! I’m working on an astrophotography time-lapse project, so hoping to get out some more in the next few months as it starts getting warmer!.

I shot on the shores of Lake Macquarie, NSW Australia

Enjoy! 🙂

Clearwater Lake Aurora

I got busy last week and didn’t end up posting a photo on here. I guess that’s just how life goes sometimes. I’ve seen a few photos recently from the beginning of the northern aurora season which is just starting for the winter and thought I’d look at some of my own from earlier this year.

This is Clearwater Lake just outside of Delta Junction, Alaska. This was the first night for me to see them, and we were blessed with an awesome display! I tried a couple of time lapses on the night, and even a real time video – which turned out pretty cool (except for the high ISO noise). Maybe I’ll post them one day. Let me know if you’d like to see them!

Enjoy 🙂

Pulpit Rock Storm

I’m excited to let you know that my Kickstarter passed 100% funding yesterday which means my 2016 calendars will be shipping on time! If you’d like one, check out the project page over here: http://kck.st/1Si1W4u

This photo is from Pulpit Rock in Norway. We dealt with rain and hail, but a bit of sun came out after a while and splashed some light on the valley walls across the fjord. The small patch of rain added to the scene. I was stoked to have just three tourists standing on the rock, and standing in a row too!

Enjoy 🙂

Villa Sunrise

Here is another one from Italy. This shot was taken just after sunrise as the light was dancing across the rolling hills of Tuscany.

Manarola in the Evening

Manarola is one of the five small towns in Cinque Terre National Park on the coast of Italy. We just missed the train in from La Spezia so had to wait an hour, which meant we missed the golden hour and arrived just after the sun had gone down. We still came away with some cool pictures like this one though.

Enjoy 🙂

This photo is one of 20 that are being voted on to be included in my 2016 Calendar: Landscapes of the World. If you’d like to see which other photos made the cut, you can click here: http://portfolio.karllindsayphotography.com/2016-Calendar/n-c6JVzX

Midnight Light Panorama

I found it amazing to be able to shoot this scene at 12:40 in the morning looking out over the town of Ålesund in Norway. Though not quite in the arctic, the midnight light was still something very real at that latitude!

This is a panorama from two landscape photos.

Neist Point

Neist Point is the most westerly point on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. There’s a fantastic view from the cliffs out to the peninsular and lighthouse. I spent almost an hour there, just enjoying the view and trying different settings on my camera. This shot is a 1.3 second exposure with circular polariser to remove the glare.

Enjoy and please feel free to share 🙂

Please also check out my Kickstarter project — I’m selling my 2016 Calendar on Kickstarter this year! Tomorrow I’ll be sending out the images for my backers to help choose their favourites. It would be awesome if you could stop by and help support a fellow artist with a dollar or two! 🙂 http://kck.st/1Si1W4u Thanks!!

Jungfrau Moonrise

When we were in Switzerland recently, we got tickets up to the top of the Schilthorn. When we walked out onto the viewing platform, we noticed that we were there right on time to catch the moonrise above the Jungfrau.

Vernazza Sunset

I think it’s time for another photo from Italia. We had beautiful vacation weather during our time in Italy. This doesn’t always make for great photography weather, but fortunately, Cinque Terre is beautiful in any weather. I shot this photo shortly after the sun disappeared over the hill on the horizon.

Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy.

Please enjoy and feel free to share 🙂

Also, I passed the all important 30% on my Kickstarter project on the weekend! It would be awesome if you could stop by and help support a fellow artist with a dollar or two! 🙂 http://kck.st/1Si1W4u Thanks!!

Young Lion

It’s been a good while since I posted a wildlife image. This one is from my safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya last December. It’s migration season at the moment, and I’d love to be headed back there for a week or so. I’m still yet to see a crossing.

Please take a minute to check out my Kickstarter project here. It’s for my 2016 Calendar. It won’t have any wildlife this time, but there’s plenty of awesome landscapes that will end up in there! Here’s the link: http://kck.st/1Si1W4u

Fairy Pools

Here’s one from the Isle of Skye in Scotland! We hiked down the valley to the fairy pools on a heavily overcast day. It was fun to wander up the stream photographing waterfalls for a while.

I’d love to go back and spend more time exploring that island!

Please go and have a look at my Kickstarter Project! It would be awesome if you could stop by and help support a fellow artist with a dollar or two! 🙂 http://kck.st/1Si1W4u

I took this photo back in January on a road trip up the South NSW Coast. This is Horse Head Rock just north of Bermagui on the Sapphire Coast. I posted another shot from here back in February (FotoFriday: Horse Head Rock).

Bergen at Dusk

I shot this photo at 11 pm in Bergen, Norway. The sun takes forever to go down, and then it still doesn’t get dark. It’s a crazy place!

My Kickstarter project went live last Thursday morning so I hope you can take a minute to check out the link! It would be awesome if you could put a few dollars towards it, or even order a calendar or two 🙂 — https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1089221440/2016-calendar-landscapes-of-the-world-canvas-print

For today’s photo, I’m posting a shot from Switzerland taken on a cloudy Saturday evening. This was the best light we had on the whole 6 weeks around Europe, and I was bummed that my camera battery ran out right after this shot.

Please enjoy! And feel free to re-post / share etc 🙂
